Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted from tooth-colored materials, such as porcelain or composite resin. They are bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance by altering shape, size, color, or length. Veneers are a popular cosmetic dental treatment for correcting various dental imperfections, including stains, chips, gaps, and misalignment. They provide a durable and natural-looking solution for enhancing the smile.
Veneers FAQs
Veneers are a thin layer of porcelain made in a laboratory and then bonded to the teeth. They can be a great way to improve the appearance of your front teeth.
Generally, a digital mock-up is made which shows you what the end product will look like. This can even be placed directly in your mouth with a temporary material to ‘test drive’ your new smile before committing. Once you are happy with the plan, the procedure takes two appointments.
The teeth must first be prepared to take the veneer. This is done in a minimally invasive way to prevent unnecessary drilling of teeth. In some select cases, veneers can even be done without altering your natural teeth at all. Temporary veneers will be placed for the period while the veneers are being made in the lab – this usually takes 2-3 weeks.
On the second visit the veneers are cemented in place.
This depends on the case but generally they last between 10-15 years. Regular brushing, flossing and 6-monthly hygiene visits will help them to last as long as possible.
