Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure aimed at lightening the color of teeth and removing stains and discoloration. It typically involves the application of a bleaching agent, such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, to the teeth. This agent penetrates the enamel to break down stains, leaving the teeth visibly whiter.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
First, a check-up is required with the dentist to make sure you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening. After this, an impression or scan is taken of your teeth. This is used to make individual bleaching trays which are custom made to fit your teeth and are designed to spread the whitening gel evenly along the visible surfaces.
It usually takes between 2-3 weeks for these trays to be made by the lab. Once the trays are back, we check the fit and will show you how to use the trays and the whitening gel. These trays will then be used by you at home overnight for a period of 10-14 days.
No, it will not harm your teeth. Your teeth may become sensitive during the process but this will return to normal within a few days of completing the course of whitening.
We recommend brushing with a toothpaste designed to help with sensitivity such as Sensodyne when you are whitening your teeth.
Something important to note: whitening gel will only whiten your natural tooth, it cannot change the colour of existing fillings, crowns, veneers or bridges.
